Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath hailed the Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah for his contribution to the Indian team over the last few years. The veteran wants him to decide on playing all three formats of the game to prolong his playing days in International cricket with a lot of cricket being played these days.

Jasprit Bumrah is set to make his return to the Indian side for the Ireland T20I series just before the all-important Asia Cup and World Cup.

The right-arm pacer had undergone surgery for a recurring back niggle in New Zealand in March and has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA and may very well be at his peak fitness when he returns to the blues.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of MRF Pace Foundation, Glenn McGrath lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his brilliant bowling for India over the years and urged him to think of playing in all three formats as his bowling action put a lot of stress on the body and reckons that with tight scheduling it tough for him to play the three formats.

“He (Bumrah) has been incredible for India. His bowling stats, the wickets he has taken, and the way he bowls, I am a big fan but his bowling action puts a lot of stress on his body. So he needs to stay strong and fit. If he does that he could play for a few more years.

“With the current international schedule and the IPL, there is no off-season anymore for a fast bowler, especially for someone like Jasprit, who needs an off-season to pull his strength back in. So that’s a decision he needs to make himself,” Glenn McGrath said.

The right-arm pacer has been India’s best bowler across all three formats since his debut for the Men in Blue in International Cricket, he is expected to be a vital player for the Indian team in the future.

I Think Jasprit Bumrah Has A Lot More To Offer For The Rest Of His Career – Glenn McGrath

Glenn McGrath believes that it is tough to ask Jasprit Bumrah to play all three formats going forward as he has unique bowling action and wants him to take proper rest between the games to keep him fully fit for the important games for India.

“It is getting harder to play all three formats. That is something Jasprit will have to think about moving forward because what he does is unique and is quite tough on his body too. I think he has a lot more to offer for the rest of his career,” Glenn McGrath added.

The speedster’s availability will be crucial for Indian Team in the ODI World Cup 2023. India’s team failed to win a single ICC trophy since 2013.

The pacer offers a different flavour to the bowling unit alongside Mohammed Siraj and Mohammad Shami as he picks wickets at the crucial juncture for the team.
