Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has backed the struggling Indian batter, Suryakumar Yadav to come good in the 50-over format of the game, as he failed to find his consistency in ODI format. While he has gone from strength to strength in T20Is and is currently the number 1 ranked batsman in the world, his form in ODIs has been nothing less than a disaster.

Suryakumar Yadav’s struggles in the 50-over format. It has become a major concern for Team India. The right-handed batsman was handed his ODI cap after making a stunning start to his T20I career but could not replicate his form in ODI cricket.

Speaking to the media, Rohit Sharma said that Suryakumar Yadav has shown the ability to perform in the T20 format of the game and revealed that he is working hard to do well in the ODI Cricket and said that the team management backs him to come to good in the forthcoming games.

“There is no question about his ability in the T20 format. The challenges (in ODIs) are different. He is really working hard and he is talking to a lot of guys who have played a lot of ODI cricket as to what attitude and mindset (to have).

“Surya is also in the mix. The team management backs him to come good in ODIs, but despite the chances, he is yet to adapt,” Rohit Sharma said.

With Shreyas Iyer not a part of the team due to a back injury, the right-handed batsman had the chance to nail his spot by delivering in the middle order but hasn’t performed upto his potential in the ODI cricket failing to make an impact for the team in the West Indies ODI series.

It Is Important To Give A Batter Like Him The Cushion Of Extra Games – Rohit Sharma On Suryakumar Yadav’s Role In ODI Team

Following the failures against West Indies, Suryakumar Yadav has been facing flak from the critics. India skipper Rohit Sharma, however, has made it clear that the team management would back the batsman and also recalled his form in the IPL 2023, where he made a comeback after failing to score runs in the initial games.

“He is the kind of player, you also have to give him that freedom to go and bat the way he does. You cannot tell him to face 100 balls and make 50 runs. It is important to give a batter like him the cushion of extra games so that he finds that groove, and gets that confidence.

“The way he started IPL this year, in the first 4-5 games he did not have too many runs but look what he did after that,” Rohit Sharma added.

The 32-year-old is considered one of the most innovative and naturally gifted batters in the world as he redefined the shorter format of the game in recent years, and can take the game away from the opponents in a short period but has struggled to get going in the ODI format of the game for India.
