Cricketer-turned-commentator Abhinav Mukund feels that young Indian opening pair Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal has got the potential to be long-term opening options for the Men in Blue in T20 cricket, following their heroics on the 4th T20 in Florida.
With 179 runs to chase, Youngsters Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal took the Windies bowlers to the cleaners for the Word-go, as they formed a record partnership of 165 runs for the 1st wickets to help the Men in Blue chase down the target in 17 overs, to keep the series alive 2-2 on Saturday.
Speaking on Jiocinema, Abhinav Mukund said that these two players would be a good pairing for India in the T20 cricket as their games complement each other, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being aggressive from the start while Shubman Gill takes a bit of time before getting going in the middle and added that the left-right combination can be a good option for India at the top of the order.
“They are vibing, right? I believe that these two are a very good pairing in terms of how they go about their business. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s made his game in such a way that he goes from ball one and likes to attack whatever bowler comes his way. Shubman Gill on the other hand takes a bit of time”.
“If you notice there (IPL), Wriddhiman Saha goes after the bowling in the powerplay. This pairing is really good and it adds to the fact that Yashasvi is left-handed. This is a very good combination and can stay for a really long time to come,” Abhinav Mukund said.
This innings against West Indies would be a big confidence booster for Shubman Gill, who has been in poor form in the series so far and Yashasvi Jaiswal has continued his top form from the longer format of the game as he batted brilliantly throughout the game to finish the things off for India in 17 overs.
I Am Sure Shubman Gill Will Figure It Out – Abhinav Mukund
Former Indian opener Abhinav Mukund feels that Shubman Gill’s form is a concern but believes that he can figure out the mistakes and come on the top and asserted that he is getting too much into the shell and being more defensive in his approach.
“India should be a bit concerned about Shubman Gill’s form in this series. But that being said, he is a quality player, and I am sure he will figure it out. I feel he is getting into too much of a shell and then playing an attacking shot and getting dismissed,” Abhinav Mukund said.
Shubman Gill will look to carry his form in the final game against West Indies for the Indian team and the form of the youngster will be crucial for the Men in Blue going into the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.
