Indian opener Mayank Agarwal is confident of making a comeback into the Indian side through his domestic performance this year. The 32-year-old played exceptionally well in Ranji Trophy 2022-23 scoring 990 runs in just 13 innings for Karnataka at a brilliant average of 82.5.
Mayank Agarwal was dropped from the Indian Test team’s playing XI after the home series against Sri Lanka last year. The right-handed opener played an integral role for the Men in Blue in both home and away tests during Virat Kohli’s stint as Indian captain but was dropped out of the team following his string of poor performances in the team.
Speaking to the media, Mayank Agarwal wants everything to put things aside from his selection in the Indian team to focus on the upcoming matches to score more runs in domestic cricket to make a comeback into the Indian side, as he wants to take up the opportunity to score big runs at any tournament he plays in the coming days.
“See, I am somebody who does not think too much about it. I have been dealt a hand and I don’t have much control over what hand I have been dealt with. But I really want to put in everything from my side.

“On every given opportunity, I want to go out there, score runs and win games. Whatever has to come its way, it will come. When a player is aiming to make a comeback to the national side, he will have to amass a mountain of runs. Failure, even in one innings, is hardly an option,” Mayank Agarwal said.
The 32-year-old has been out of India’s Test side due to his string of poor performances and he will look to make a comeback into the Indian setup by performing in the domestic circuit. The Indian opener was removed from the team in favour of young Shubman Gill, despite having a good record in red-ball cricket.
It Definitely Feels Very Good To Put In Match Winning Contribution – Mayank Agarwal
Experienced opener Mayank Agarwal takes pride in performing in high-pressure situations at any level and said that in the Duleep Trophy semifinals, he tried to bat the team out of the bother in the 2nd innings to chase down the target on the final day and added that he wants to play high-intensity cricket wherever he plays the game as the team wants to win the game at any cost.
“It is something that I am proud of. Even in the semifinals (Duleep Trophy) we were in a spot of bother and getting those runs was nice as the wicket was not the easiest. It definitely feels very good to put in a match-winning contribution,” he added.

“It is of utmost importance. Me, as a player, I play to win and that is the intensity I play with and all of us are putting in the hard yards. The semifinal game was very tight and you could see that winning that match meant a lot for everyone. We are going to go all out and try our best to win the final,” Mayank Agarwal added.
The Karnataka opener is currently leading the South Zone in Duleep Trophy and will be leading the South Zone team in the Deodhar Trophy. The tournament is scheduled to begin on July 24.
