Legendary Indian skipper Kapil Dev slammed the young Indian cricketers over their attitude to learn from the greats of the game as most of the new-gen players do not ask for valuable advice from the former cricketers. Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar said that current Indian cricketers rarely come to him for advice, which was not the case in the previous generation.

Kapil Dev inspired the Indian team to win the first-ever world championship coming up against high-quality opponents in England. The 1983 World Cup victory redefined the game in the country, as the game reached the nook and corner country, with talent emerging every year to represent the country at the highest level.

Speaking on The Week, Kapil Dev spoke about the positives and negatives of the current generation players, as he feels the players are so confident about their ability on the negative part they are also hesitant to ask for help from experienced individuals during their tough phase in cricket.

“Differences come out, the good (thing) about these players…is that they are very confident. The negative point is they think they know everything. I don’t know how to put it better than that. But they are confident, but they think ‘you don’t have to ask anybody’. What we believe is an experienced person can help you,” Kapil Dev said.

Kapil Dev feels that with too much money in hand, arrogance comes to the players and reckons that they are too many cricketers who need some sort of help from experienced players as he stated the example of legendary Sunil Gavaskar who recently revealed that they are not many cricketers comes to him for advice.

“Sometimes too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers think they know everything. That’s the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can’t you talk? Where is the ego?

“There is no ego as such. They feel ‘we are good enough’. Maybe they are good enough, but with extra help from somebody who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, he knows things. Listening sometimes can change your thought,” Kapil Dev added.

Earlier, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag advised the Indian youngsters to take the initiative to talk to the legendary and senior players if things were not going their way in cricket stating that Sunil Gavaskar won’t make an effort to talk to young Sehwag or Chopra as it should be another way around.
