Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan revealed that it was the initiative of the Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli to send him to the No.4 position in the batting order in the 2nd innings to take on the left-arm spinners in the West Indies team. The Southpaw scored a quick-fire half-century to set a massive target of 365 runs for the home team.

Ishan Kishan has impressed everyone with his batting and wicket-keeping skills in the ongoing 2nd test against the Men in Maroon and the left-handed youngster played exceptionally well against the West Indies bowlers to score 52 runs off 34 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes in the 2nd innings to give Indian team a chance to win the 2nd test in the Caribbean soil.

Speaking to the broadcasters at the end of Day 3, Ishan Kishan was happy with his knock in the 2nd innings and revealed that Virat Kohli backed him to bat at the No.4 position in the team and was hopeful of winning the game on Day 5 and reckons that it was good call by former Indian skipper at the end, as they wanted to set a target of 370-380 for West Indies to chase.

“Was really special. I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me to go and play your game. Let’s hope we will finish the game tomorrow. It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told me that I should go in. There was a slow left arm who was bowling,” Ishan Kishan said.

“It was a good call for the team. Sometimes you need to take these calls. We had the plan that we will play 10-12 overs after the rain break and score 70-80 runs. We wanted a 370-380 target,” Ishan Kishan added.

Ishan Kishan brings versatility in the batting order and left-right combination into the play and the youngster has done a pretty decent job for the Indian team in the white ball format as he has smashed 510 runs at a good average of 42.5 in 14 ODIs, including an outstanding double hundred against Bangladesh and will look to continue his fine form in the longer format of the game.
