Indian Veteran Wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik feels that the Indian team needs to instil some young blood for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle (2023-25) starting against West Indies on July 12 on Caribbean soil. A few of the Indian senior players place in the team come under the scanner following India’s humiliating defeat against Australia in the World Test Championship final.

Indian seniors Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja could not make an impactful performance for the team in the much-awaited finals against Australia, as the seniors failed to step in the crucial match for the side, as they lost the second consecutive final in the last two cycles of World Test Championship.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, RCB Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik said that most of the Indian team players are on the wrong side of the ’30s as the Indian team head coach will have a huge task to pick their core team for the next WTC cycle, as the injured Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant will walk into the side once their recovery from injury and also credited the players for putting in a lot effort to make into the second WTC final in two years.

“I think a bit of both. In many ways, we know that a lot of them are in their mid-30s. So few questions there for Rahul Dravid, who he wants to keep and who he wants to move on with. Now other names that you said, Bumrah, Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Pant. Iyer will walk into this team”.

“Let’s make it very obvious. I think they warrant a place in the team. In this cycle, they have been one of the key reasons, why we are sitting here and talking in England today because that’s the kind of success they have helped India achieve,” Dinesh Karthik said.

According to reports in PTI, Indian selectors and Rahul Dravid are looking to bring in some youngsters in the squad for the next World Test Championship cycle starting next month and it is widely speculated that Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav’s spot in the team will come under the scanner following their poor performance in WTC Final.

Are You Going To Give Him That Two-year Cycle? – Dinesh Karthik Questions India’s Plan For the Next WTC Cycle

Dinesh Karthik believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal will be the number one player, who will be in contention to make it into the squad, as he has done exceptionally well in the domestic season and also backs Sarfaraz Khan and Mukesh Kumar to make into the squad for their consistent performance in domestic cricket over the last few seasons.

“No. 1 Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has had a phenomenal domestic season. Are we going to find a place for him? No. 2 Sarfaraz Khan. Now that’s been a big name doing the rounds for some time now in the middle order. If you want to fit him in, who are you going to leave out and then followed by the Mukesh Kumars and the rest of them, is there a place for a new medium pacer to come in and stamp his authority over a period of time? Are you going to give him that two-year cycle?” Dinesh Karthik questioned.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar were part of the travel reserves for the World Test Championship final and would look to prove their worth in International Cricket if they are provided an opportunity for the team at the highest level.
