West Indies skipper Rovman Powell was happy with his team’s 4-run victory over India in the 1st game of the 5-match series and feels that the outcome of the series will depend a lot on how their batters counterattack the Indian spinners in the remaining games.
India failed to chase down the target due to poor batting performance in the 2nd innings, India struggled throughout the chase as wickets kept falling at regular intervals whereas the West Indies bowlers bowled exceedingly well on the wickets that had assistance to the bowlers to defend the total on the final over of the game.
Speaking to the broadcasters after the thrilling win over West Indies, Rovman Powell was happy with his team’s performance on the 1st T20I as they wanted to start things on a positive note and hailed their pacers for doing well on the pitch that had assistance for the spinners.

“It’s a very good feeling. We talked about starting the series on a positive note, and we did that today… After watching the Indians bowl, I was thinking if we were a spinner short. But the fast bowlers bowled into the wicket,” Rovman Powell said.
The West Indies skipper played a sensible knock for his team on the 1st T20I as he tried to get himself in the initial overs he played well to score 48 runs from 32 balls, alongside the impressive performance of Nicholas Pooran in the middle overs.

Rovman Powell admitted that it was a difficult surface to bat on in Trinidad and Tobago, as it was good to take on bowlers in the powerplay, and feels that the series will be decided on how their team plays the spinners in the middle overs as it is important to keep the left-right combination to trouble the spinners and hailed Jason Holder for his brilliant bowling on the final overs of the game.

“It was difficult to bat, it was always going to be a good powerplay and a slowdown in the middle. This series will be decided on how the West Indian batters play spin in the middle overs… it makes the left-hand batters very important. All the overs that Holder bowled were fantastic. At the interval, he told us to [take] pace off,” Rovman Powell added.
The Men In Maroon will be happy with the win over the higher-ranked Indian team as they will look to build a team for the 2024 T20 World Cup on their home soil and they will look to continue their fine form going into the final four games of 5-match series.
