Indian veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik believes that the Indian team will have a lot to gain from the two-match test series in West Indies even though they carry less significant interest as the Men in Maroon going through tough times in International cricket.

Indian team has handed a debut to two promising youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan in the 1st match of the test series following their consistent performance in the IPL and the domestic cricket and the Men in Blue will look to groom some new players for the next World Test Championship cycle starting from this West Indies tour.

Speaking on the Cricbuzz,  Dinesh Karthik feels that this series will be important for many Indian players as it gives them clarity going forward in the Indian team and reckons that they are a lot of questions in the present team including the spot of the all-rounder and believes that this best chance for Indian team management to try out few new faces for the next WTC cycle.

“For a lot of players, for the likes of Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur – is he the all-rounder that we are looking for? Many questions are there. And for that, this series is going to be very important. Here is a chance for the Indian batting to stand up and get the scores that we are all used to seeing over some time,” he added.

“As players, a lot of these names are trying to make a mark. It’s the start of a new World Test Championship cycle. There’s a lot at stake,” he added.

India team management has invested in the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, and Jaydev Unadkat for the first test as this series will be a good test for them to play at different conditions and the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar also can learn a lot being part of the dressing room.

Dinesh Karthik hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal for his brilliance in the 1st innings so far, as he took on the fast bowlers and spinners playing some nice shots and feels that the Indian youngster is very sure about his shots selection to take on the different bowlers.

“It was great to see the debutant come in and take on the fast bowlers. Also, when the spinners came, he realized that this pitch might not be easy for batting, so he took on the spinners and played some audacious shots. He was very sure about what kind of shots he wanted to play, which augurs well for him,” Dinesh Karthik added.

The Left-handed opener looked very confident in his Test debut for India, as he batted beautifully in the initial phase of the innings before taking on the bowler and the youngster brought in a fearless brand of approach as step down to take on the bowlers even in the final over of the Day 1 play.
