Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra shared his opinions regarding the Indian skipper Hardik Pandya striking a six to finish things off for the Indian team in the 3rd T20 game against the West Indies on Saturday. It invited a wide range of controversy as many slammed the Indian all-rounder for his act on the field.
Many experts and fans believe that the Indian skipper should have allowed the Indian youngster to complete his second consecutive half-century in the T20 Internationals. Tilak Varma has grabbed the eyes of many experts and fans for his outstanding performance in the last three matches against the West Indies. The Hyderabad cricketer had scored his maiden fifty in the second T20I and was left stranded on 49* in the third game.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been criticised for his act on the field for not allowing Tilak Varma to complete his half-century in the game and questioned about the talk of milestones in the T20 cricket and feels that he cannot replicate of what MS Dhoni did at as a captain for the Indian team.
“Just to touch upon it. It’s an interesting one, Hardik Pandya has been trolled a lot and has been criticized. But there’s another school of thought that says, why are you talking about milestones in T20 cricket? So, that was quite in the middle of a conversation.”
“I remember once MS Dhoni played a forward defensive shot because he wanted him to finish it off, he didn’t want to take the limelight. But Hardik doesn’t have to be a Dhoni, even if he considers him an idol,” Aakash Chopra said.
In one video, which is from the 2014 T20 World Cup semifinal between India and South Africa, Dhoni is seen defending a delivery to allow Kohli, who had scored a fifty, to hit the winning runs.
Several fans have expressed their displeasure over Hardik Pandya denying Tilak Varma a half-century. Hardik Pandya and Co. were under significant pressure after their losses in the first two T20Is of the five-match series. Team India and West Indies will lock horns in the fourth T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida on Saturday.
