Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal became the 17th Indian player to score a century in his debut innings for the country and also has the unique record of playing a maximum number of balls by an Indian debutant in the longer format of the game having played 350 balls in his unbeaten knock of 143 runs in the 1st innings.
The left-handed opener has surpassed the record of former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, who had faced 322 deliveries in his first innings against England in India. Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma faced 301 deliveries in his debut for the country in 2013.
The Southpaw scripted history as he recorded a hundred in his maiden Test on away soil. The Mumbai-born batter became the 17th Indian batter to score a century on his debut for the Indian team in the longer format of the game and the youngster is looking promising to score a big daddy hundred on his debut.
Yashasvi Jaiswal will have an eye on surpassing the record of Shikhar Dhawan’s 187 runs in his debut match, which is the highest by an Indian batter on his debut. Only seven players have made double hundred in their debut, the Indian youngster will look to make a mark by scoring a daddy hundred in his debut match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was happy with his performance for the team in the 1st test and wants to bat as long as possible for the team in the 1st innings. He expressed his gratitude to the people who supported him in this journey as he dedicated this performance to his family members.
“It feels really good. It was an emotional moment [getting 100]. My batting is still going on so the effort will be to play as long as possible for the team. This is the start of my career so I’ll strive to take that as long as possible too and see how focused and disciplined I can be going ahead,” Yashasvi Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal was the standout performer for Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded Indian Premier League and impressed everyone which his fearless approach to batting at the top of the order, taking on the world-class bowlers in IPL 2023, which helped him to cut the Indian side.
