Off-spinner Nathan Lyon led Australia’s fightback on day three by picking up five wickets, before Ravindra Jadeja struck his seventh Test fifty to help India take a 32-run lead in the first innings. Along with Lyon, Pat Cummins took three wickets to wrap India’s innings on 332.
India started proceedings on day three on a decent note, ignoring few early bruises, as one of them came on the very first ball from Pat Cummings. The delivery, which missed Jadeja ‘s outside edge by a minor distance was given out before a DRS referral came to India’s rescue.
The batting pair of Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja were quick in cutting down the trail, as within an hour they helped India take the lead. Jadeja, who scored an unbeaten fifty in the Ranchi, notched up his successive half century and celebrated it in his own trademark style. Though, in the bid to complete that, he did trouble Aussie bowlers with few lusty strokes, off which couple of them coming from Cummings over. Two pull shots, one for a boundary and other for a good looking six.
However, it didn’t take Australia too long to make a breakthrough, which came in the name of Jadeja. Cummings cleaned him up before Steve O’Keefe picked up Bhuvneshwar Kumar on a nought. In the following over, Cummings had Saha stuck on the crease with a lethal bouncer, which kissed Saha’s gloves and Steven Smith’s excellent helped the cause.
Later, Lyon completed his five-wicket haul by picking up Kuldeep Yadav for seven runs.
