“I was told that I did 18.5. I was very happy,” Shankar told TheHindu, while confirming that he just did not the pass the yo-yo test, but also achieved much more points than the desired standards.
In the past one year, Shankar has seen many lows due to injury. A few months back as well, a shoulder injury ruled him out of the South Africa A tour mid-way but now, the all-rounder all set and raring to go.
The all-rounder was a part of the India A side during the recent series against New Zealand A. Shankar played two crucial knocks in the third and fourth one-day against visitors and played a vital part in team India’s win.
With his performances at the A level, Shankar has presented a strong case for himself for team India selection, but the elusive call-up is still far away from the time Hardik Pandya is at the fore.

Unlike Pandya though, Shankar possess captaincy skills as well. In the 2016/17 season, he led Tamil Nadu to Vijay Hazare Trophy title win, when they defeated Bengal in a low scoring encounter at Feroz SHah Kotla in New Delhi.
As of now, Vijay has cleared the first round of selection parameter of the Indian cricket team, i.e. yo-yo test and now, he needs to keep backing his case with performances in the domestic season.
Shankar passing fitness test is also good news for the India team as they already have Hardik Pandya in the Indian. Players like Stuart Binny and Shankar are someone who always provides an option to selectors to call them on the side to fulfil pst of a fast bowling all-rounder, in case Pandya is unavailable for the team.
