India A vs England Lions 2019: Hosts India A led by Ajinkya Rahane rode on the spectacular all-round show to thrash England Lions by 138 runs in the second One-dayer of the ongoing five-match series on Friday (January 25) in Trivandrum. Rahane alongside Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer smashed a half-century each. Eventually, it helped India to go past the 300-run mark.
England youngsters crumbled under pressure which eyeing to chase the target of 304 in 50 allotted overs. India A bowlers bowled in tandem to pick wickets at regular intervals. It eventually derailed the run chase of England Lions.
India A vs England Lions 2019 – visitors two down:
The visitors led by Sam Billings were strangulated at 165 in 37.4 overs. Interestingly, India A’s all six bowlers filled their respective wicket column.
The Punjab-born leg-spinner Mayank Markande starred with the ball. He bagged three wickets after conceding 32 runs in 8.4 overs.
For the English Lions, wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Davies was the top scorer with 48 off 63 balls. However, Lewis Gregory followed him with 46-ball 39 runs.
Apart from these two knocks, team leader Billings could record 12 to his name. As many as five English batters failed to make it to the double figures.
India A vs England Lions 2019 – India A’s Innings:
Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bowl first. And it somewhat worked in visitors favour in the first four overs. But what unfolded not only frustrated the visitors but kept them at bay.
India lost the first wicket at the score of 14 in 4.4 overs in the form of Anmolpreet Singh, who scored seven off 14 deliveries.
But for the second-wicket, Rahane pull up socks alongside Vihari to stitch a staggering 181-run partnership. Vihari returned to the pavilion after scoring 92 off 83 deliveries.
However, Vihari was followed by Rahane at his score of 91 off 117 balls.
Besides, Iyer took the attack on opposition by scoring quickfire 65 off 47 balls. His innings was laced with five fours and two sixes.
Ankit Bawne, who’s the deputy of Rahane scored 27-ball 65. For England Lions, Zak Chappell and Gregory picked two scalps each. However, young off-spinner Dominic Bess remained wicketless after conceding 36 runs in his five overs.
With India A leading the series 2-0, the third One-dayer will be played at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on 27th of January (Sunday).
