In a three-match unofficial ODI series against Bangladesh A, which is a platform for Indian players to impress the Indian selectors and earn a berth in Indian team for the South Africa series starting on October 2 in Dharamsala, three young India A stars impressed selector with their outstanding performance here at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
An all-around performance from Gurkeerat Singh and a cameo from middle order and tailenders won the first unofficial first ODI for India against a Bangladesh A, which is comprised of 10 international players.
India A batting first was 5 for 125 in 26 over. But, a sudden surge of 102 runs for the 6th wicket partnership between Sanju Samson and Gurkeerat Singh changed the fortune of the match. In front of national selectors at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore Indian top order, including Suresh Raina rattled by Saiful Islam and Taskin Ahmed. But, as the sun shone brighter Indian middle order and tail order made a feast of the Bangladesh bowlers who were looking threatening in the morning.
Sanju Samson played a sheet anchor role with a sensible73 off 76 balls while Gurkeerat Singh played busy 65 runs innings off 58 balls. As Singh departed, Rishi Dhawan played a cameo innings of 58 runs from just 34 balls. Dhawan’s 78 runs partnership with Samson helped India to put three hundred on board.
Dhawan was more brutal after Samson’s departure and accumulated 17 more runs in 9 balls.
Gurkeerat with the ball in hand impressed as well. When Dhawan and S Arvind rattled the top and middle order, Singh cleaned up the Bangladesh tail.
Bangladesh commencing the chase lost 5 wickets in 87 runs in 17 overs. But 127 runs partnership between Litton Das (75) and Nasir Hussain (52) helped Bangladesh build a resistance against the Indian bowlers. But, off spinner Singh broke their partnership in the 37th over. Then in the next seven over Bangladesh bowed down to its knee as India won the match by 96 runs.
