India Creates History in the Domestic Circuit; Hosts 2024 Matches in 2018-19 Season

In what could be termed as a landmark accomplishment in the Indian cricket, the crazy cricket country has witnessed as many as 2024 matches in the domestic season of 2018-19. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is supervised by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), in a bid to streamline the cricket and implement the Lodha reforms, has achieved a monumental figure in the domestic circuit.

The BCC release revealed that as many as 6471 players have participated in the entire domestic fold.

The domestic season has culminated on a high with the completion of Women’s Under-23 Challenger Trophy finale in Ranchi. On April 24, India Blue led by DP Vaidya lifted the title by five thrashing India Green by wickets.

In the mega cricketing carnival, as many as 37 teams have participated from distinct State-based associations.

Moreover, the recent domestic season has achieved many a first owing to the history of cricket in India.

And equally amounting to the whopping 3,444 match days, the domestic circuit has raised the bar of the game.

Earlier, in the 2017-18 season, the domestic fold witnessed as many as 1032 matches. Besides, it has amounted to the number of 1892 match days.

Interestingly, it has involved 28 teams in that particular season.

However, the current season will be over on May 12 when the Indian Premier League (IPL) finale will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

While talking about the significance of the domestic set-up, Ranji Trophy holds an important place in the first-class fold. Over the decades, it has witnessed veterans emerging to make it to the top-flight cricket.

Well, the other list of major cricketing tournaments in India’s domestic circuit includes Vijay Hazare Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup, Deodhar Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Over a couple of decades, the recognised domestic tourneys have witnessed a sudden surge. It has set the new pathway for India in cricket.
