Team India Vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who is leading three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians (MI), in his recent interview, expressed satisfaction that the Men in Blue are very much established for the upcoming 2019 World Cup. In the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit has marshalled his troops well.

The top-order Rohit Sharma has quite often enjoyed his dominant show in the white-ball cricket. He is currently fighting hard to give his best in the ongoing edition of the IPL 2019.

“We are pretty much settled,” Rohit said at the launch of cricket.com.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is supervised by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) could announce Team India squad within the next 19 days.

Earlier, the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC), has set April 23 as the final date for the distinct teams to submit their respective squads.

However, at the fag end of March, the selection committee chairman for the senior team MSK Prasad reiterated the team will be announced before April 20 (Saturday).

On the other side, Rohit has sweated out in nets to focus on his performance which has somewhat taken a hit in the ongoing IPL.

Earlier, Rohit remarked IPL shouldn’t serve as a criterion for the quadrennial event. The twelfth edition will kick-off on May 30 at the Kennington Oval in London.

“We have played enough international matches and know where things stand. IPL is a different ball game, yes form matters a lot, but we have played enough international matches to know who are the players you want (in the team),” Rohit stated.

In four matches, so far, Rohit could manage 107 runs in four outings. He is averaging 26.75. Also, he has a solitary six to his name apart from 16 fours. However, his strike-rate is 130.49.

The 31-year-old right-handed batsman Rohit has pointed out that there’re a couple of spots to be filled. He somewhat has hinted at the No.4 conundrum, adding it will rely on the think tank including skipper and the head coach.

“I think Virat and Ravi Shastri have to decide what combination they want. With their inputs, I am sure the selectors will keep an eye on what’s happening in the IPL as well,” Rohit said.

He further cited that the requirement of the extra bowler or a batsman is based on requirement.

“There are a few spots left, which everyone knows about. But again, that all depends on what the captain, the coach and the selectors think, and about the combination they want to go ahead with. Whether to go with extra seamer or extra middle-order batsman, extra opening batsman or an extra spinner,” Rohit added.

While speaking about English conditions, Rohit admitted the fact that the situation in the United Kingdom (UK). He reminisced about English conditions last time back then it was quite dry.

He added if the situation will remain same then India will introduce an extra slow bowler. Besides, if the conditions will be reverse they will opt for a paceman.

“Last time when we were there, the conditions were very dry. I don’t know if it’s going to be same. If it is the same, then we require an extra spinner. It’s as simple as that. If not, then we can get an extra seamer,” Rohit maintained.

Also, Rohit revealed that Jasprit Bumrah is keen to bowl more in the IPL to get himself into a rhythm.

“I was talking to Jasprit (Bumrah) the other day. And he feels that he should bowl more and play a lot of matches to be in that form, so I don’t think that’s (the IPL) an issue,” Rohit inferred.

India will open their 2019 World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5 at Southampton.
