India To Kick Off Sri Lanka Itinerary From July 26

Indian cricket team will land in Colombo on July 19 next month to kick off a 50-day India tour of Sri Lanka, as per a report in Daily Mirror. The Sri Lankan cricket board has sent the proposal of the tour to the BCCI, which has also been approved by the Indian board as well.

As per the report, India will play a full-fledged series with the neighbouring country comprising of three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I match.

Pallekele stadium will host the first Test match between the countries from July 26 to 30 followed by the second Test at Galle from August 3 to 8. The final Test match will be played in Colombo at SSC grounds from August 12 to 16. A five-match ODI series will follow the Test action.

The first ODI will be played on August 20 at R. Premadasa International Stadium. The following four ODIs will be played on August 24, 27, 30 and September 3.

A T20I game at R. Premadasa on September 6 will conclude India’s tour of Sri Lanka before the team India returns back to the country the very next day.

India and Sri Lanka are playing a Test series after a period of two years whereas an ODI series has been proposed after more than a two and a half year. It was in the year 2015 when India travelled to Sri Lanka for three test match series, which India won by a margin of 2-1. The very next year i.e. 2016, Sri Lanka travelled to India for a three-match T20I series to assimilate to the conditions before the start of T20I World Cup which was played in India. The two countries are yet to play any ODI bilateral series since 2014, with the last one coming when India invited Sri Lanka to replace West Indies, who returned back home mid-way due to pay issues with their board.

However, it has been eight long years since both the countries have played a full fledged series. It was in 2009 when Sri Lanka travelled to India for a complete series comprising of three Tests, two T20Is and five ODIs. Indian won the match Test series by 2-0 whereas the T20I series ended in a draw with both the teams winning a game each. The host country won the ODI series as well by a margin of 3-1 before the last ODI played at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium was abandoned due to a dangerous pitch.

Here is the detailed schedule –
