India has retained their fourth position in the latest International Cricket Council’s One-Day International rankings despite not playing the 50-over cricket since the three-match series against England in January.
The list is led by South Africa with 119 rating points followed by Australia (118) and New Zealand (113). Fourth-placed India has 112 rating points.
Meanwhile, West Indies and Pakistan, who are in danger of missing out on an automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup, will be looking to consolidate their positions when they take on each other in a three-match ODI series starting in Guyana on Friday (April 7). West Indies are presently sitting in ninth position on 84 points, five points shy of eighth-placed Pakistan. Seventh-placed Bangladesh leads Pakistan and West Indies by 3 and 8 points respectively.
Meanwhile, West Indies will have a chance to leapfrog Pakistan during the three-match series but for that Jason Holder’s men will have to whitewash the visitors. If West Indies manage to achieve it, they will join Sarfraz Ahmed’s men on 87 points but will be ranked ahead by a fraction of a point. On the other hand, if Pakistan manages to inflict a whitewash on the home team, they will join Bangladesh on 92 points and will be ranked ahead of their Asian rival by a fraction of a point.
The top seven teams on September 30, 2017, along with hosts England will qualify directly for the next World Cup while the other four teams will have to play in a 10-team Qualifying tournament in 2018 to ensure their spot in the showpiece event of the game.
