India and Pakistan are reportedly set to face off against one another at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the ODI World Cup 2023 after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reached an agreement according to Dainik Jagran.
Earlier due to the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 issues where India had refused to tour Pakistan who are the hosts of the tournament and then rejected the hybrid model proposed by PCB chief Najam Sethi, the Pakistan board had threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup and/or not play in Ahmedabad.
However, a compromise has been found following discussions and negotiations between the BCCI and the PCB. This decision follows the BCCI’s acceptance of the PCB’s proposed hybrid concept for the Asia Cup.
The PCB’s hybrid model proposes that the first four matches of the group stage in the tournament’s primary phase be played in Lahore, Pakistan. The next stage, which includes matches against India and the finals, will be held in Sri Lanka.
This agreement permits both countries to hold matches while also addressing Pakistan’s security worries.
BCCI Accepts PCB’s Hybrid Model After ICC Obtain Pakistan’s Guarantee Of Playing In ODI World Cup 2023
If their hybrid model is not adopted, the PCB has threatened to boycott the Asia Cup and then the ODI World Cup in India. To address these concerns, International Cricket Council (ICC) officials, including Chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice, traveled to Lahore and spoke with PCB officials in order to secure a promise that the Pakistan team would travel to India for the 2023 World Cup.
In light of this assurance, the BCCI agreed to accept the PCB’s suggested hybrid format and hold the India-Pakistan World Cup match in Ahmedabad. This match is notable since it is the first time the two opposing nations will meet on Indian territory since 2016.
The BCCI’s decision to host this high-intensity game at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is motivated by the expectation of a big number of overseas fans traveling to India for the event. The Narendra Modi Stadium is the country’s largest cricket stadium, holding up to 100,000 people.
According to the source, the majority of Pakistan’s World Cup matches will be held in Chennai and Hyderabad.
The World Cup schedule has already been provided to the ICC by the BCCI, and it is expected to be revealed by Wednesday.
