India Should Play Virat Kohli At Number 3 – Zaheer Khan
After the recent interview by Ravi Shastri, a lot of debates have been carried out regarding the batting position of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. It seems like the change in the batting order of Virat Kohli looks obvious after the recent statements at the press conference by the Indian skipper, who also followed it in the fourth ODI at Mohali. Meanwhile, Zaheer Khan isn’t impressed with the move.
KL Rahul came to bat at number 3 for India while Virat Kohli moved to number 4 in the Mohali ODI against Australia. It came after Rayudu’s poor show in the initial three games of the series. This was the case when India toured England and the skipper Kohli moved down the order.
It is a negative kind of a move – Zaheer Khan
With every single game, the debates for the number 4 position in the Indian National Cricket Team is mounting high. In between, Zaheer Khan strongly disagrees with the move to change the position of the Indian skipper in the batting lineup.
”In the last few games, we haven’t got the starts, which we used to. What if the same repeats in England conditions? How we are going to tackle it? Maybe, the option is to play Virat Kohli at number 4 but I don’t agree with that. I think it is a negative kind of a move. It is a defensive move,” Zaheer Khan quoted to Cricbuzz.
”It is actually protecting your best batsman. Your number 3 batsman should be given enough opportunity and Kohli is well used to it. When you got that why changing the order. If Virat bats at number 4, I think it is not the right sign for India going forward,” he added to his lines.
The Indian skipper got a quality batting average at number 4 for the team. Though the numbers at third position look astounding, the number 4 figures also look quite dominating for Virat Kohli. He excelled in both the positions to perfection.
Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see whether Virat Kohli will play at number 3 or 4 against Australia in the final ODI of the series. With the series at stake, can Indian management risk him demoted in the batting order?
