Virat Kohli is rested for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which means that vice-captain Rohit Sharma will be making his captaincy debut during the series.

There are two new faces in the form of Shreyas Iyer and Sidharth Kaul, who have been rewarded for impressive performances for the A team.

First talking of Iyer, he had made it to the Test and T20I side earlier but this is his maiden ODI call-up. He also made his T20I debut during the series against New Zeland and is yet to play Test cricket. Iyer helped India A team win the tri-series in South Africa few months back after playing an innings of 140 off just 131 deliveries to lead India A to win, which impressed the selectors.

His impressive run saw him being called to the T20I side and also leading India A against New Zealand A.

Coming to the second new face i.e. Siddharth Kaul, the Punjab pacer was a part of the India U19 team that won the junior World Cup in 2008 under the leadership of Virat Kohli. He had a good Ranji season last year and made it to the Irani Cup squad but was ignored for a Test call-up. He was a part of India A that travelled to South Africa under Manish Pandey.

Kaul has played a total of 50 first-class and 52 List A games till now. He was one of the members of 30 member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

The duo is expected to make their ODI debuts during the series. Shardul Thakur has been dropped from the ODI team.

Coming to the Test squad, there are no changes in the side. Only Shikhar Dhawan, who was released from the squad for the second Test, has been added back to the list. Hardik Pandya has been rested for the third Test as well, which means that Vijay Shankar retains his place.

Amidst rumours, Virat Kohli has decided to play the Delhi Test before going on a rest of more than two weeks.

The limited-overs series will start on December 10 with the first ODI to be played on December 10 in Dharamsala. Mohali and Visakhapatnam will host the last two ODIs of the series. Coming to T20I series, the three games to be played are in Cuttack, Indore and Mumbai.

Talking about the ongoing Test series, India won the second Test by a margin of an innings and 239 runs to ensure they deliver the first punch. The first Test ended in a draw, as Indian bowlers were left with no time to take the remainder of Sri Lankan wickets but a win in this game has seen the team going up in the series. The third Test of the series will be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi.
