The Boxing Day test has ended in draw but there is still something that India can be proud of with the draw as well.

The MCG test was well poised even on Day-5 as both teams had a good chance to pull off a win but Australia to reach a safer target delayed the Australians chances of getting India all out in time and India once again let the tail of Australia score and hence had a huge target to achieve in 70 mandatory over’s. In the end it was a well fought draw for both teams.

Breaking the 16-match streak –

The more important point of this match is that, India has now broken a 16th match streak for the 3rd time. To remind you of the earlier two instances.

The first one came in the year 2001 when the Australia team was on a 16-match winning streak and India put an end to it on the 17th.

Similar was the case in 2008, where India stopped the run of Australia after their 16 straight wins.

As we talk about the 3rd one, the situation is slightly different as this time round India has broken the 16 consecutive result streak of the Melbourne Cricket Ground with a draw. The earlier 16 matches played on MCG have yielded a result and today after 17 years and 16 matches there has been a draw on this legendary ground.

The previous draw seen on this ground was in the year 1997 in the Boxing Day test between Australia and South Africa.

Since 1997, 16 matches were played off which Australia has won 13, England has won 2 and South Africa has managed to win 1 test match and the 17th match with India has resulted in a draw.

So the next any team is on a winning streak and have won 16 matches on a trot, then the team to contact for the 17th match is definitely India.
