India will gear up for the five-Test series in England with a four-day practice game against their own ‘A’ side at The County Ground in Northamptonshire in July later this year, in unusual scheduling.
The Indian cricket team is scheduled to tour England in August and September to play five Test matches, beginning with the opening game at Nottingham on August 4. Players who recently played in just-concluded Australia series like Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal and Mohammed Siraj have played for A team in recent past.

The exact dates of the match will be unveiled later. The matches played by A team are not considered to be Test matches or One Day Internationals, instead of receiving first-class and List A classification respectively.
“Some of the world’s finest international cricketers will be on show at The County Ground this summer as we welcome the two teams,” Northamptonshire County Cricket Club said in a statement.
“Ahead of their five Test series against England in August, Virat Kohli’s Indian side take on A team in a four-day warmup fixture that promises to be a showcase of high-quality cricket.”
Recently, A team toured New Zealand before India’s tour to New Zealand in early 2020. And, alongside some of the regular members in ODI and Tests, uncapped cricketers like Priyank Panchal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sandeep Warrier, Avesh Khan, Ishan Porel, Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat also featured.
India To Play 5 Tests In England And England Are Currently In India To Play 4 Tests
The second warm-up match is scheduled in Leicestershire on July 28.
“The Indian tour party will then travel to Leicestershire the following week for a second warmup fixture beginning the 28th of July,” the statement said.
The second (August 12-16) and fourth Tests (September 2-6) will be held in London, while the third (August 25-29) and fifth (September 10-14) Tests are scheduled in Leeds and Manchester. England is currently in the Asian country to play four Tests, beginning in Chennai on February 5.
It will be followed by five T20Is and three ODIs. The first 2 Tests will be at Chennai and last 2 at Ahmedabad which will also host 5 T20Is. All of the three ODIs will be at Pune.
England won the 2 match Test series against and in Sri Lanka. England though have rested Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran and Mark Wood or 1st Test which drew a lot of criticism while Jos Buttler will return home after 1st Test’s conclusion. Rory Burns missed Sri Lanka Tests on paternity leave while Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes were rested for Sri Lanka Tests but have returned in England’s 16 man squad for first two Tests at Chennai.
