Former Pakistan player Mudassar Nazar has expressed his disappointment over the recent troubles that has hampered the cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. The arch-rivals have not played a full bilateral Test series after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks which led to the suspension of cricketing ties between the two countries. They played a short series of three ODIs and two T20 matches in India in December 2012 but otherwise they have met only in ICC-organised events or the Asia Cup. And any hopes of the revival of bilateral ties is looking bleak after the Uri attacks.
Talking to the Press Trust of India, Mudassar said: “The present situation is really sad for me. It leaves me disappointed. Because I have played a lot against India in India, Pakistan and Sharjah and I know how important these matches are for the development of a player and raising resources for the boards.”
Blaming India for being unfair to Pakistan, the former cricketer said that his country should now only consider their own interests.
“Frankly speaking it saddens me and I think India has been unfair to us. It has come to a stage where the PCB should now only look after its own interests and get the best deal for themselves.”
He added that cricket has always played an important role in reducing the tensions between the two fierce rivals and opined that the game should be kept apart from politics. Following the Uri attacks, BCCI president Anurag Thakur said that even the thought of playing against Pakistan in recent future is inappropriate.
“At some stage, everyone has to realize that cricket has always helped in removing differences and reducing tensions. Allowed people to understand each other. I say just keep cricket and politics apart,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mudassar also said that India should not take the advantage of the huge cricket market at their disposal. India is scheduled to play a whopping 13 Tests in this home season but the former player said that it was too much.
“I know India has a huge market for cricket and huge viewership for cricket but still playing 13 tests in a space of few months is overdoing it. I just think India has yet to find the right balance between the three formats. At one time they had gone towards T20 cricket after the IPL and now they are going towards test cricket.”
