  1. Tim Southee and Tom Latham partnership revived New Zealand

After losing the test series 0-3, the New Zealand team after invited to bat in the first ODI at Dharamshala, their batsmen failed to cope with the conditions. Gutpil went scored 12, Williamson 3, Taylor 0, Anderson 4, Ronchi 0, Neesham 10 and Santer 0. The conditions favoured the pacers and Indian pacers did not allow the New Zealand batsmen to score runs easily. At one stage New Zealand were 106 for 8 in the 32nd over. Tim Southee was dropped by Umesh Yadav off the bowling of Bumrah. After that Tim Southee looked in fine touch smashing the Indian bowlers to all parts. Tim Southee and Latham put on 71 runs for the ninth wicket. Tim Southee completed his half century off balls. He was dismissed by Amit Mishra for 55. Latham remained not out on 79. New Zealand were bowled out for 190 in 43.5 overs.
