India vs Australia 2014-15: MS Dhoni vouched for Suresh Raina in Test team
It was the former captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who demanded Suresh Raina for the Test series in Australia in the toss-up between Suresh Raina and Lokesh Rahul. In the tour committee selection discussion, consisting skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Vice-captain Virat Kohli, Duncan Fletcher, and team-director Ravi Shastri it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni who voted for Suresh Raina even though Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were more willing towards Lokesh Rahul.
Hindustan Times reported that Duncan Fletcher did not have much of a say, as his control has been greatly restrained ever since the recruitment of Ravi Shastri for the team director designation. His responsibilities now mainly encompasses of only overseeing training sessions and carry the words of national team management to the Indian cricketers.
Ravi Shastri had stated Before the Australia tour that he wanted to help Suresh Raina expanded into a successful Test player. Suresh Raina, who finally got selected into the team in the 4th and final Test of the series in Australia got out on a zero whereas Lokesh Rahul scored a quality ton.
