India vs Australia 2017, 2nd Test, Day 4: Twitter Reacts As Virat Kohli’s Side Level Series With A Thrilling Win
Mar 7, 2017 at 3:33 PM
Ravichandran Ashwin took six wickets as Virat Kohli-led India defeated Australia by 75 runs at Bengaluru to level the four-match series 1-1.
Chasing 187, David Warner and Matt Renshaw made a cautious start, adding 22 runs before the latter was dismissed by Ishant Sharma. 20 runs later, Ravichandran Ashwin trapped David Warner before Umesh Yadav sent back captain Steven Smith and Shaun Marsh to leave Australia reeling at 74/4. Mitchell Marsh and Peter Handscomb then tried to ease the pressure by hitting a flurry of boundaries. The duo added 27 runs for the fifth wicket to help Australia cross the 100-run mark but Ashwin took three wickets in quick succession to put the hosts on front foot. The off-spinner dismissed Marsh, Matthew Wade and Mitchell Starc as the visitors were reduced to 103/7 from 101/4. Seven runs later, Ravindra Jadeja castled Steve O’Keefe before Ashwin dismissed the remaining two batsmen to end with figures of 6/41.
Earlier, Australian pace duo of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc ran through the Indian batting lineup to restrict the hosts to only 274 after they began the day on 213/4. Starc drew the first blood in the morning when he trapped Ajinkya Rahane for 52 before Hazlewood made light work of India’s tail. The right-arm pacer finished the innings with the figures of 6/67.

The bowlers stood up and played their part after the batsmen gave them a decent (but not matchwinning) score to bowl with.

Steve Smith, don't talk to the dressing room, just walk to the dressing room & tell your story walking. That was OUT. #IndvAus

Massive wicket. Interesting that Smith tried to ask dressing room for help with referral. Some might call it cheating #INDvAUS

Spare Umesh Yadav the cane. He played that shot because he couldn't wait for the new ball after watching Starc and Hazelwood.
