The moment when Indian skipper Virat Kohli announced that Abhinav Mukund will replace an injured Murali Vijay in the playing XI for the Bangalore Test, the Tamil Nadu opener created a record of second most matches missed by an Indian player in between playing two consecutive Test matches.
Mukund made his Test comeback after a long break of five years and seven months and during this, he missed a total of 56 games. His last Test match came against England at Nottingham in 2011 before he was replaced by the comeback man Virender Sehwag for the last two matches. Mukund was later dropped from the Test squad and made a comeback to the side for the Bangladesh Test last month riding on his superb show in domestic cricket.
But he couldn’t really replicate his domestic performance at the international level as Mukund went back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. It was Mitchell Starc who trapped him in front of the stumps in the third over of the Bangalore Test.
Here is the list of Indian players to miss most games between two consecutive games:
| Player Name | Matches missed |
| Parthiv Patel | 83 |
| Abhinav Mukund | 56 |
| Piyush Chawla | 49 |
| Parthiv Patel | 43 |
| Arun Lal | 40 |
