India vs Australia 2017: As A Player, Coach, Never Bothered About The Pitch, Says Anil Kumble

India head coach Anil Kumble has said the team is completely focused to perform well in the remaining three Tests against India, after being outclassed by the Steven Smith-led side in the Pune Test by 333 runs. Kumble also said during his playing days, he never bothered to have a look at the pitch and rather trusted himself to deliver to the best of his potential.

“I never looked at the pitch. As a captain, as a player and as a coach I never bothered to have a look at the pitch. People wrote a lot about my bolwing with regard to a pitch,” Kumble stated at the press conference ahead of the second Test of the four-Test series.

Kumble, former India skipper, stated Bengaluru wicket has traditionally favored the batters before saying India’s winning streak had to come an end one day.

“I have grown up playing on this ground [Bengaluru]. It has generally been a good batting surface,”Kumble added.

The leggie, who joined the team as a coach in June last year, said the team’s prime focus is to tick the boxes which they missed during their embarrassing 333-run defeat in Pune.

“As a coach it’s important to look ahead. We are looking forward to remainder of the matches in the series,” Kumble remarked.

The 46-year-old Bengaluru-born Kumble stated Pune Test is history now but lessons have been learnt from the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

“Australia played well. What has happened in Pune is done and dusted. We didn’t play really well on the surface and further didn’t adapt to the conditions,” Kumble said.

He also expressed the team is looking forward to continue their winning way by giving their best in the remainder of the matches.

“We need to adapt very well in the second Test. Earlier it was the team failure and we can’t point finger at any one in this point in time,” Kumble concluded.

In 132 Tests, Kumble bagged 619 wickets at an average of 29.65 with 35 five-wicket hauls and 31 four-wicket hauls.
