There is a clear reason why people refer to David Warner as a modern-day batting great. The Australian vice-captain has been an absolute beast with the willow in his hand since the last few years, and the engineer of that Australian batting machine. Beginning his career mainly as an explosive T20 opener, Warner soon found success in Test cricket. His numbers for Test cricket are staggering with his century count standing out.

However, till last year, his stats in ODI’s didn’t justify his talent one bit, and they needed an improvement at the earliest. Being the champion he is, Warner turned his ODI career around in some serious style, with a jaw-dropping tally of 8 tons in 2016. That even brought him to the pinnacle of the ICC ODI Batsmen’s Rankings.

Ahead of the fourth ODI at Bangalore against India, where Warner is set to play his 100th ODI, the southpaw addressed the press and displayed some confidence. Despite his side having lost the series, Warner maintained that the Kangaroos would look to do well in the remaining games of the tour.

“It’s a significant milestone for myself and my family,” Warner said.”I’m extremely proud of where I am today, coming from playing a Twenty20 game at the MCG to being called up a couple of games later to represent Australia in the ODI format. “I never thought it would come so fast.”

“I learnt a lot over the early stages of my career of how to play the 50-over game. You can’t come out and tonk the ball from ball one like in Twenty20 cricket.”I’ve adapted that approach through four-day cricket and playing Test match cricket has allowed me to play the game properly and show myself that there’s a lot more time in 50-over cricket than 20-over cricket.”To be established from where I was, I’m proud of that,” the southpaw added.
