India vs Australia 2017: “I Was Filled With Joy To Walk Into The Field With Baggy Green,” Says An Elated Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell had an emotional comeback to Test cricket as the 28-year old all-rounder made his debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2013 played in India and was making a comeback to the side after a prolonged period of two years in the same country and the same trophy.

Maxwell is not regarded as a Test match material by head coach Darren Lehmann a few months back but the comeback man showed some great instincts with the bat,

“To get back in the side in the first place was something I really held close to my heart,” said the Aussie all-rounder who now has a century to his name in all three formats of the game.

“I was so happy to be able to walk back on the field with the Australian Test team with the Baggy Green cap on, and I was just filled with joy when I got told I had the opportunity to do that again. I didn’t want to waste the opportunity, didn’t want to make it my last Test that’s for sure,” the new skipper of Kings XI Punjab added.

Maxwell was given an opportunity in this Test match after an injury to Mitchell Marsh. Had Marsh not gone injured, the opportunity would’ve not come. In the post-match press-conference, Maxwell revealed that he doubted that whether he will play Test cricket again or not,

“I was in a place where I doubted whether I’d play Test cricket again, whether I’d have a chance to put the cap back on. I just did everything I could, on and off the field. I trained as hard as I could. I changed things in my technique, I had numerous conversations with different people and tried to stay in the loop as much as I could and just kept on asking questions,” added all-rounder.

Great innings from Maxwell helped Australian team to mount a total of 451 on the board, the highest by any team in the series. He along with Steve Smith stitched a partnership of 191 runs which helped Aussies to mount such a humongous total.

Well, his role does not end here as he still has the job with the ball. Though, till now Steve Smith hasn’t handed the ball to the offie but surely captain might be tempted to hand him the ball as the pitch might open for the spinners as the game progress.
