India vs Australia 2017: Mitchell Starc Our Biggest Weapon, Says Mitchell Marsh

The spinners might have been tipped to play a decisive role in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series but Mitchell Marsh feels that Mitchell Starc will be Australia’s biggest weapon in India.

The left-arm pacer took two wickets in Pune Test where Australia’s spinners took 17 out of the 20 wickets as the visitors thrashed the world number one team by 333 runs to go 1-0 in the series. However, the Bengaluru pitch is likely to provide (much) less turn than the Pune pitch and in such a scenario, Starc will have a big role to play. And Marsh has backed his compatriot to do well in the Indian conditions.

Speaking ahead of the second match which begins from March 4, Marsh said:

“He’s probably one of the best bowlers in the world if not the best bowler in the world.”

“He’s certainly the best reverse swing bowler in the world so while all the talk is about our spinners, he’s still our biggest weapon I think. I think it’s great if he’s in the Indians’ heads, and hopefully he can take a few wickets for us,” he added.

Marsh further admitted reverse swing could play a big role in Bengaluru.

“Yeah, even in Pune, the wicket itself did a lot of the work for us, so it’s not necessarily the square here, these balls scuff up pretty well early on,” Marsh said.

“The reverse swing is going to be huge for us (in Bangalore) and if we can get it going, we’ve got two of the best reverse swing bowlers in the world, so it’s still going to be a huge weapon for us,” he added.

One cannot disagree with Marsh’s claims as Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have already proved their worth in the longest format of the game. Moreover, Starc’s performance in Sri Lanka last year, where he took 24 wickets in only three outings, is bound to send a strong message to the Indian team.
