India vs Australia 2017: Steve Smith Asks Marsh To ‘Go’ For Review, Marsh Goes For Walk To Pavillion
This could be the biggest gaffes committed in the history of cricket. This is really unacceptable. This is something nonsense. Before adding some more adjectives to it etc let us come to the point and reveal what actually happened on the fourth and eventual final day of the second Test match at Bengaluru.
It was the 15th over of the game when Australian team needed 121 runs with eight wickets in hands. The match was stuck in a tough situation where both the teams were competing to wrest the game but a small barrier in communication and Australian team just wrote a script to lose the game on its own.
Scenario – A delivery from Umesh Yadav hit Shaun Marsh on his pads.
The left-handed batsman asked his captain whether he should opt for DRS or not?
Smith asked him to go for the review and here was the moment when Marsh interpreted ‘Go’ as go to pavilion instead of ‘Go’ for a review and he walked out of the playing area. No, it’s not a joke.
The funny and surprising tale was himself revealed by Steve Smith in the press conference,
“We weren’t entirely sure,” Smith said. “I sort of said “go” as in “go have a look at it” and he sort of turned around and started walking, so I should’ve probably put my hands up and done it.”
Well, it can be said that this somehow wrote script of Austalia’s loss in the game as replays showed that Marsh was not out as the ball was missing the stumps but the barrier in the comminution resulted in Marsh gifting us wicket to Indians.
Had Marsh gone for the review, the result of the game could have been different.
