On Tuesday, we saw an unusual act during the Bengaluru Test between India-Australia. Steven Smith, who was hit on the pads on one of the deliveries from Umesh Yadav – instead of moving back to the pavilion or asking for DRS – looked at dressing room in hope for an indication from management on whether to use DRS or not.
His act was caught live on camera and a smart piece of umpiring from Nigel Llong prevented any unfair play at Bengaluru. The matter drew much attention when Indian captain Virat Kohli raised the matter in the post-match press conference.
Since then, Smith has been receiving criticism from everywhere and now former Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist has also jumped into the debate as he feels the current Australia skipper might be reprimanded for it. However, he further added that calling him a cheat is a bit stiff.
I never played in the review era, but I’d suspect that’s against the rules. Not a good thing. Sure he will be reprimanded and move on. https://t.co/PBThYai68l

But calling him a cheat is a bit stiff. https://t.co/lO5VWCCsQZ

Gilchrist, who retired in 2008, explained he never played in the DRS era but still knows that asking dressing room for any such kind of a help is unethical.
Soon, we might see the ICC taking a note of this act from Steven Smith, which could invite fine or a warning for the Australian skipper.
