History was created at the Eden Gardens this evening, as India’s latest spin sensation Kuldeep Yadav became the first Indian spinner to pick an ODI hat-trick. It all happened against the run of play, as Australia’s woes against spin in the subcontinent were brought to the fore yet again. After playing Kuldeep well in his initial spells, it all went southwards for the Aussies, as the chinaman spinner wrecked havoc.
In pursuit of a modest total of 253, Australia lost a couple of early wickets, as the openers disappointed yet again. Skipper Steven Smith, though looked extremely fluent in his half-century and put Australia on the course for the chase.
However, once Smith was dismissed, Kuldeep was brought back into the attack, and then began his dominance. After dismissing Matthew Wade and Ashton Agar on successive deliveries, Kuldeep was up against Pat Cummins, for the hat-trick ball.
Bowling against the right-hander, Kuldeep bowled a well-disguised googly, which took the outside edge of Cummins’ willow. The ball landed straight into the gloves of MS Dhoni, who judged the ball to perfection. It was a historic moment for Kuldeep indeed.
Below, is the video of the hat-trick ball and Dhoni’s catch.
