In-form batsman Virat Kohli will get an opportunity to break another Sachin Tendulkar’s record when he comes out to bat in the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.
The India skipper has been on a record-breaking spree due to his sensational displays with the bat. After a brilliant 2016, that saw him scoring 2595 international runs including three double-centuries in Tests, the Delhi star began the new year in a similar fashion by scoring a record-breaking double-century in the recently concluded one-off Test against Bangladesh. In doing so, he surpassed legendary batsmen Sir Donald Bradman and Rahul Dravid, who scored double tons in three consecutive series. The 28-year-old also joined an elite list which comprises Bradman, Michael Clarke, Graeme Smith. All these captains have scored four double hundreds in Test cricket.
The right-handed batsman will have his sight set on another record when he comes out to bat against Australia in the four-match Test series starting from February 23. Kohli will have an opportunity to surpass his idol and batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar’s rating points in ICC’s all-time batting charts.
Kohli, who had 875 points to his name before the game against Bangladesh, gained 20 points which propelled him to joint-33rd in the all-time list, alongside Steve Waugh and Andy Flower.
Tendulkar, who retired from the game in 2013, is at 31st position with 898 points, just three points more than that of his former teammate. With four matches to be played and considering the form he is in, Kohli will surely fancy his chances of going past the Little Master. Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar is the highest-ranked Indian player in this list with 916 points while Bradman heads the list with 961 points.
