2017 has been an incredible year for Virat Kohli. Right in the first week of the new year, he was named as India’s captain in all forms of the game, and he took over the baton from MS Dhoni. With the bat as well, Kohli has been in sparkling form across all formats. Since becoming the captain though, Kohli’s numbers have shot up massively, and that has been reflected in his love for winning India the games.

This year, in the 20 games he has featured in, Kohli has already notched up over a thousand runs, with his precise tally standing at 1109. In those 20 innings, Kohli, has four centuries to his name, along with seven-half centuries, the latest of which was brought up some time ago against Australia at Kolkata.

This makes Kohli the holder of an extremely prestigious Indian record as he equals the tally for the most number of 50+ scores by an Indian captain in a calendar year. With 11 50+ scores already to his name this year, Kohli now joins the likes of Mohammad Azharuddin and MS Dhoni, who also have the same number of 50+ scores, for their respective calendar years.

While 1998 was an extremely productive year for the wristy Mohammad Azharuddin where he got 11 scores more than 50, 2009 was an excellent year for MS Dhoni. Dhoni too got the same number of 50+ scores in 2009.

With India set to play at least 11 more ODI’s this year, Kohli is sure to break that tally and have the most number of 50+ scores by an Indian captain in ODI’s for a calendar year.
