India vs Australia 2017: Whitewash against Australia May Not be Possible – Sourav Ganguly

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, while admitting that the Men in Blue will be very tough to beat at home, said a 5-0 scoreline in the upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia is an unlikely one.

Both the teams are entering the tournament after contrasting results in the last few months. While Australia exited the Champions Trophy at the group stage and recently drew a Test series in Bangladesh, India is brimming with confidence after making it to the finals of the Champions Trophy and followed it by impressive series wins in West Indies and Sri Lanka.

But while India is favourites to win the series, Ganguly feels a whitewash against the reigning world champions may not be possible.

“At home, India will be very tough to beat. India will win, but 5-0 (like against Sri Lanka) may not be possible as Australia are a strong side,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly also had a word of praise for the selectors’ rotation policy. The team management has made it clear that the experiments will be done extensively in order to get a solid unit for the next World Cup.

“They (selectors) want to assess the youngsters. It’s a good move looking ahead to the World Cup 2019. We have enough time to prepare. Everyone will get a chance, that’s what you need in a team building, Ganguly said.

The legendary batsman further insisted that Yuvraj Singh can still make a comeback to the Indian team even though the recent snubs for the series against Sri Lanka and Australia looks like a huge blow to his career.

“Yes, yes he can make a comeback if he fights. why not, nothing is over till it’s actually over,” Ganguly said.

The five-match series against Steve Smith & Co. will start on Sunday (September 17) in Chennai. Three-match T20Is will follow the ODI series.
