The wicketkeeper tried to stump KL Rahul out by a foul way and coped heavy criticism for his conduct. The incident took place in the ninth over. Rahul had hit a shortish delivery from Adam Zampa towards backward point. However, the bails were soon seen lying on the ground.

Many thought that it was a hit wicket and the on-field umpires soon referred it to the third umpire. However, replays showed Carey had broken the stumps with his gloves. The delivery was then declared a no-ball. Carey was left red-faced for his conduct while Rahul got a free hit. To make matters worse for himself, Carey did not admit that he broke the stumps.
