India vs Australia 2019: 5th ODI, Delhi – India’s Players Rating

Indian National Cricket team batters once again failed to stitch partnerships as they went down by 35 runs against Australia in the fifth ODI at The Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. As a result, India lost the series 3-2 after going 2-0 up in the series.

After an early flourish by the Australian batsmen, Indian bowlers pulled things back to contain them go past 300 runs. Usman Khawaja continued his superb form to score another hundred – his second of the series while Peter Handscomb chipped in with a fifty. Besides, useful contributions from Jhye Richardson and Pat Cummins helped Australia post 272 runs.

Meanwhile, during the chase, the host nation never looked in line to chase down the target. Shikhar Dhawan departed early as skipper Virat Kohli tried to stitch a partnership with Rohit Sharma leading the charge. But Adam Zampa wrecked havoc picking three wickets in quick succession to throw India out of the game. Although Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar added 91 runs for the seventh wicket, it was not enough to change the course of the game.

Here is the players rating of the Indian National Cricket team from the fifth ODI against Australia at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi:

ROHIT SHARMA (6/10)

Rohit Sharma looked determined to take his side all the way at Ranchi. He played a waiting knock scoring 56 runs before getting out and in the process crossed 8000 ODI runs. However, a brilliant delivery from Adam Zampa foxed Sharma who missed the flight to get stumped.

SHIKHAR DHAWAN (3.5/10)

Shikhar Dhawan failed to replicate his performances from the last game. The southpaw played a no shot off Pat Cummins edging straight to wicket-keeper Alex Carey. Dhawan scored 12 runs off 15 balls including two fours before getting out.

VIRAT KOHLI (4.5/10)

Virat Kohli once again got off to a good start playing a gorgeous looking cover-drive. However, his inning was cut short from a cross-seam delivery from Marcus Stoinis. Kohli scored 20 off 22 balls including two fours before getting out.

VIJAY SHANKAR (3/10)

It was a perfect opportunity for Vijay Shankar to cement his berth for the World Cup. However, he let go of the chance mistiming a half-tracker from Adam Zampa only to find Usman Khawaja at long on. Shankar scored 16 runs off 21 deliveries during his brief stay at the crease.

RISHABH PANT (4/10)

Rishabh Pant looked calm and composed trying to forge a partnership with Rohit Sharma. However, he was undone by a beauty from Nathan Lyon which got his edge only to find Ashton Turner in the slip cordon. The southpaw scored 16 runs from an equal number of deliveries including one four and a six each.

KEDAR JADHAV (7/10)

Kedar Jadhav played a blinder of a knock adjusting to the situation but it was not enough to seal the game to his side’s favour. Jadhav scored 44 runs from 57 deliveries before holing out to deep mid-wicket off Jhye Richardson. This knock will a massive confidence booster ahead of the World Cup.

RAVINDRA JADEJA (6.5/10)

BCCI

Ravindra Jadeja was responsible for containing runs in the middle overs after a dominant start from Australia. The left-arm spinner provided the first breakthrough rattling Aaron Finch’s wicket. Jadeja kept up the good work to finish his quota giving away 45 runs and picking two wickets.

BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR (8.5/10)

BCCI

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was a touch expensive with the new ball but made a swift comeback in the death overs. He bagged three crucial wickets to help the Indian National Cricket team pull things back. The right-arm pacer returned with figures of three for 48 which will give him enough confidence as the players march toward the IPL. Besides, he also stitched a good partnership with Kedar Jadhav but perished in an attempt to score quick runs.

KULDEEP YADAV (3/10)

Kuldeep Yadav had a rare off day in business since he made his debut in international cricket. The left-arm spinner looked out of socks today going for too many runs. Young Kuldeep gave away 74 runs in his full quota of ten overs including the wicket of Ashton Turner.

MOHAMMED SHAMI (4.5/10)

Mohammed Shami looked out of rhythm in Delhi as he went for a few boundaries early on. However, he bowled some decent line and length at the end using the off-cutters to great effect. Shami accounted for two for 57 in his nine overs.

JASPRIT BUMRAH (7/10)

Although Jasprit Bumrah couldn’t find his name in the wicket list, he bowled an outstanding line and length. However, he was a bit expensive in his 9th over going for 19 runs. Despite that, the fast bowler returned with none for 39 in his full quota.
