It was a tough series to swallow for the Indian fans, as they never expected such kind of result at home, especially, after winning an initial couple of games in the series. However, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli doesn’t want to look much into it. He also showered words of praise on the Australian team for showing great character throughout the series.
The Indian National Cricket Team won the first couple of game at Hyderabad and Nagpur. However, Australia pulled their socks up in the next couple of games to push the series to a decider at Delhi. When it all boiled down to one good game, they delivered the goods and sealed the series.
They showed more heart and were brave – Virat Kohli
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli stated that they were not looking much into the series. He also highlighted that fact that India tried different combinations in order to make adjustments to the team ahead of ICC World Cup 2019.
“The fact that Australia came and won here means it was a hard-fought series. They played better and won. We have been playing good cricket and doesn’t feel like a loss. Nobody is panicking because we know the things we were looking to do in the last three games. They just showed more composure in a pressure situation,” Virat Kohli said.
Good for Australia’s confidence:
Further, he recollected India’s triumph in Australia in the recent past. He quoted that the Indian team players were brave in Australia and secured a victory. Likewise, Australia showed great character than India to bag ODI series.
“I think this is exactly how we played in Australia. We were braver than them in their situation. We just went out and expressed ourselves. When they saw they had a foot on the door, they showed more heart and deserved to win as they are a young team. Good for their confidence to do well in India. We didn’t play as well as they did,” he said in post-match press conference.
Well, as Virat Kohli said, Australia showed their real character in the 5-match ODI series. They played with a lot of intent and the whole team came to the party when it mattered the most. The classy Usman Khawaja has been the star performer while Peter Handscomb looked rock solid for the team.
