Former Australia wrist spinner Brad Hogg feels that India has made a decision on Dinesh Karthik and his future doesn’t look bright. However, he is hopeful that the door remains open for Karthik in the 50 overs format. He said that India has good depth in the wicket-keeping department.”You have a strong case. Indian selectors may have made the decision on DK future. Hope the door is still open on ODI cricket for him. Good depth in the Indian keeping department,” Hogg wrote on his Twitter handle.

It was on Twitter that a fan asked Brad Hogg whether the inclusion of Dinesh Karthik as a back-up wicket-keeper would have been apt. Rishabh Pant scored 36 of 24 deliveries. However, with the gloves in hand, Pant was pretty ordinary and missed a couple of relatively easy stumpings.
A fan taking to his twitter handle asked Aakash Chopra whether he feels Dinesh Karthik would have a better option. Chopra felt that if Pant is in the World Cup squad he can play as a pure batsman. Hence people shouldn’t be too harsh on Pant. Aakash Chopra felt that Rishah Pant played a good knock in Mohali.
“Also, bear in mind that IF Pant is picked for the World Cup, he won’t be playing ahead of Dhoni. And he won’t be keeping. So…it’s kinda unfair to judge him purely as a keeper. I thought he played a fairly decent knock today. Struck well. #Pant #IndvAus,” Aakash Chopra wrote.
In reply, Brad Hogg felt that Aakash Chopra was spot on in his observation. “Spot on, I think Pant can play as a front line batter in the middle order. You need a spare keeper on tour. Also, another Left-hander won’t hurt,” Hogg said.
Rishabh Pant has been a revelation for Indian cricket over the past year or so. His exceptional power hitting abilities set him a class above his peers. However, his main area of concern is his temperament. He mis-hits quite a lot during the initial part of his innings and gets dismissed in the weirdest of manners. When he times the ball it stays hit. However, it is always 50-50 chance of him finding the middle of his bat while going for the big shots.
His wicket-keeping definitely needs improvement. Pant missed a couple of easy stumpings yesterday. Turner’s stumping proved to be the match changer. He batted through the innings and remained unbeaten on 84 of 45 deliveries. Whenever Pant was missing the ball behind the stumps or trying something cheeky, the crowd started chanting Dhoni Dhoni. It will be interesting to see whether MS Dhoni returns for the decider or Pant gets to play another game?
