ToggleIn the ongoing second One-day International (ODI) of India vs Australia 2019 series in Nagpur, Virat Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma failed to open his account while faltering with the bat early on. The top-order batsman Rohit started off cautiously before holing out at third man on nought on the bowling of Pat Cummins.
While having a stellar record at Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur, Rohit failed to continue his emphatic run.
Earlier, Rohit had accumulated 204 runs at an average of 102 in two ODIs against Australia.
Earlier, while witnessing cracks on the 22-yard surface, Australian skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to field first. Also, the pitch is expected to favour the spin bowlers, and it was evident when visitors’ skipper Finch used Glenn Maxwell in the seventh over of Men in Blue’s innings before leg-spinner Adam Zampa rolled-over his arm.
The right-handed batsman Rohit faced six deliveries before returning to the pavilion when Cummins got big on the senior batsman. Equally, the top-notch batsman Rohit was a bit disappointed with the way he has got out while slicing the ball.
Of late, Rohit is struggling to dominate in the white-ball cricket. In the first ODI at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 2 (Saturday), Rohit scored 37 off 66 deliveries with the help of five boundaries.
However, despite the fact that India lost four crucial wickets at 99, Kedar Jhadav’s unbeaten 81 was complemented by MS Dhoni’s 59 not out to start off the five-match ODI series with a winning note by six wickets.
How Cummins set-up Rohit in Nagpur ODI?
While testing Rohit, who played a brilliant shot in between but found the fielder. In between, he couldn’t resist when Cummins bowled a short and wide delivery. Well, a touch short delivery pushed Rohit to opt for an upper-cut. Eventually, it flew at the pace straight down the throat of Zampa, who made no mistake whatsoever. With this, India has lost the first wicket without opening the account.
Meanwhile, at the score of 38, India has lost both the openers including Shikhar Dhawan inside the first powerplay (8.3 overs).
