If Rohit Sharma’s two cracking fours off the first three balls in India’s latest international venue, the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati lifted the roof, what followed after that completely silenced the jam-packed stands. Left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff, bowling only his second over in international cricket, rocked India ‘s top-order with a stunning spell early on as the hosts finished their innings on 118/10 in 20 overs.
After being hit for two boundaries, the lanky pacer made a superb comeback trapping Rohit Sharma on the fourth delivery of the innings before catching Virat Kohli off his bowling on the very next delivery to leave the hosts reeling at 8 for 2. The left-arm was not done yet as he dismissed Manish Pandey and Shikhar Dhawan to reduce the hosts to 27 for 4 to finish his spell with 4 for 21.
A 33-run stand between Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni then steadied the ship but just when it looked the duo was set for a big stand, Adam Zampa dismissed the latter. Within the next ten runs, Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were sent back too as India were reduced to 70 for 7. Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav then steadied the ship with a 33-run stand, but India suffered another huge blow when the former was dismissed by Marcus Stoinis just when it looked the home team will accelerate. The Men in Blue eventually finished their innings on 118.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the innings:
Dhoni playing T20Is is as pointless as Sachin continuing to play ODIs after the World Cup. Nothing to gain. Only delaying the handover.

Superb by Zampa to lure Dhoni to his doom. Something in pitch for pacers and spinners. But India must get at least 125 to be competitive!

Dhoni's power-hitting capability has declined. Cannot go on the rampage from the word go; can consolidate well. Ideal for ODIs, not T20s !

You don't get Dhoni stumped often, well done Adam Zampa! #INDvAUS
