India tour Bangladesh for a short series, which is set to kick off on the 10th of June. The Bangladesh captain, who has been behind the stumps for the team for almost a decade will not be able to keep wickets in this series, Nazmul Hassan the Bangladesh Cricekt Board president said in a press release.
Mushfiqur Rahim, the captain of the team sprained his finger in the first match of the series against Pakistan. He played the second test but found it difficult to keep wickets with the sprain. Hassan said, with Rahim dawning three roles in the team as a captain wicketkeeper and a finisher, and that he might have to let go of one of the roles and it is most likely that he will not keep wickets any more.
He added that it the decision is to be made by the player and that he expects him to not keep wickets atleast for the series against India. He has been a regular wicketkeeper in the 21 Tests he has captained so far and averaged 38.85 with the bat, which is better than his career batting average of 32.34. In T20s too, Mushfiqur’s batting average is 31.37, better than his average as captain and wicketkeeper at 29.36.
Anamul Haque and Litton Das are the two back up keepers in the squad and one of them may take over the gloves if Rahim decides not to keep wickets in the series. Anamul averages just 9.12 in four tests and has not kept wickets for the national team in 2 years. Das, on the other hand looks the more viable option after having scored tons of runs in the domestic circuit.
