India Vs Bangladesh 2017: Five Talking Points Of Day One In Hyderabad

India finished the Day One of the only Test against Bangladesh on high as the home side continued their domination in batting while putting 356 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets at Stumps.

The above photograph in the story depicts how India batted during the day against Bangladesh!

Skipper Virat Kohli was batting on 111* off 141 balls, who also notched his maiden Test century against Bangladesh followed by Ajinkya Rahane’s unbeaten 46 off 60 balls after making a comeback.

Bangladesh is playing their 98th Test; ninth against India.  So far India have registered six wins and two games were drawn in 2007 and 2015. All previous Test matches were held in Bangladesh.

Here’re the five talking points of the Day One:

Virat Kohli – the dominant force with the bat:

How many times you’ve seen Virat Kohli raising his bat? He has made it a norm. Skipper Virat Kohli had started innings with a boundary off the bowling of Mehedi Hasan to start the onslaught.

Kohli, who is averaging over 50 in 53 Tests repeated where he left off against England by scoring 16th overall in his 54th Test.

The 28-year-old right-handed batsman, who was the leading run-scorer in the five-match Test series against England struck 12 boundaries during his unbeaten knock of 111.

Elegant with the bat, Kohli has played the decisive role for India in a longer format of cricket and he has yet again proved he is best in business while registering 1000-plus reasons at home in Tests in a single season.

Bangladesh’s Sloppy Fielding:

As the edges dropped short of the fielders during the day, Bangladesh missed the golden opportunity when Vijay was returning to the danger end (i.e. bowler’s end) before calling for a run.

The incident took place in the 19th over of India’s first innings when Vijay tucked the ball towards square leg and called his partner Cheteshwar Pujara for a single, but the ball was stopped by Kamrul Islam Rabbi in no time and threw it back awkwardly to the bowler Mehedi Hasan but fortunately on one bounce. The latter failed to collect the ball before Vijay made to crease when he was batting on 35 and India, who got a reprieve, were 67 for one.

However, the Tigers looked weary on the field throughout the day after probing spell from fast bowlers in the morning session.

The bowlers also came up with short ball ploy which did not yield them any desirable results.

Opening woes and Murali Vijay’s ton: After opening batsman KL Rahul (2 off 4 balls) fell cheaply in the first over of the game off the bowling of Taskin Ahmed when inside edge brushed his pad before dislodging the bails; Vijay batted sensibly alongside solid looking Cheteshwar Pujara against inexperienced bowling line-up which was followed by spin heavy attack led by young Mehedi Hasan.

After a cautious start, both set a partnership of 176 runs before Pujara nicked a delivery of off-spinner spinner Mehedi Hasan.

The ball ballooned up in the air to turned into a simple catch after strucking the pad of wicket-keeper and skipper Mushfiqur Raheem.

Pujara scored 83 off 177 balls which included nine boundaries and Murali Vijay was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 108 off 160 balls in the 64th over by Taijul Islam.

It was the second hundred by Vijay against Bangladesh and overall 9th of his career.

In past 12 months, KL Rahul and Murali Vijay has recorded a single fifty-run partnership for the first wicket. So with Australia arriving later this month, selectors will keep an eye on KL Rahul.

Ajinkya Rahane’s return and School Children filled the Stadium: In the morning session, the Hyderabad Cricket Association had recorded 7,500 spectators at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium as four schools were given the free entry in the stadium during the One-off Test between India-Bangladesh.

The stadium erupted in joy when Virat Kohli, who is known for his consistency came into bat.

After huge debate on the social media, it was Mumbaikar Ajinkya Rahane, who made into the playing XI against Bangladesh at the expense of Karun Nair.

Nair became first Indian cricketer who was omitted in the playing XI after scoring a splendid triple hundred in the fifth Test against England in Chennai.

On his return, versatile Rahane struck seven boundaries in his unbeaten 46 runs at the strike rate of 75. He would like to extend the innings after the poor outing against England where he registered just 67 runs in five innings.

Along with Kohli, Rahane had put on a 122-run stand for the fourth wicket to pile up the misery on The Tigers.

From Cricket to Music –  We had a bizarre day in commentary box: In a bizarre comparison, commentator Sanjay Manjrekar crossed all the limits while comparing a cricketer Mehedi Hasan with Mehdi Hasan who is a famous Ghazal singer from Pakistan.

Most probably Manjrekar is having the liking for Mehdi’s contribution to music before revealing the name.

However, Manjrekar also recalled how offie Hasan floored English batting line-up in the two-match Test series at home which was drawn by 1-1.

Mehedi did not seem to affect Indian batsman in their backyard.

While having the dream debut series, Hasan picked 19 wickets in Chittagong and Dhaka.

He returned to pick a lone wicket so far on Day one while conceding 93 runs in 20 overs.
