The chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav has replaced injured Amit Mishra for one-off the Test match against Bangladesh to be played in Hyderabad. This is the maiden call-up for Yadav in the longest format of the game.
Kuldeep emerged as the highest run-scorer and highest wicket-taker for Uttar Pradesh in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy by virtue of scoring 466 runs and grabbing 35 wickets in the tournament. The youngster backed his case with a fifer in the first practice game against England, which might have given him an edge over Shahbaz Nadeem.
Amit Mishra has been ruled out due to a knee injury which he suffered during fielding in the third and the final T20I in Bangalore. The right-arm leg-spinner put in two acrobatic dives while on the field but could not execute that properly and injured his knee during the attempt. Mishra also did not come with to Hyderabad with the team and since then there was speculation over his participation in the game.
Kuldeep Yadav will have a direct competition with comeback man Jayant Yadav for a place in the playing XI. Though Jayant will be the first choice for a place in playing XI but Kuldeep, who is a surprising factor in the team might also be considered once.
The first and only Test match of the historic series between India and Bangladesh will be played in Hyderabad from February 9.
