Until the last over of the game, it was undecided that which way the last session was going but it was an equally dominated last over by both Ishant Sharma and Mushfquir Rahim. The Indian pacer caused all sorts of problems for Rahim as he dodged him twice and also hit him on the hand, but Rahim came back with a four on the next ball, which was somehow quite impressive to the eyes. The Day 3 of the game was evenly poised, with both teams dominating equally.
After getting an early advantage in the day, Virat Kohli-led India were on the right track with a total of three wickets coming in the first session of the game.
Then came a good time for the visitors when senior duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim shared 107 runs for the fifth wicket. Both found gaps easily, and were sometimes able to clear the fielders as well.
The home side bowlers made a comeback with the wickets of Shakib Al Hasan and it was the in-form bowler Ravichandran Ashwin who came up with a breakthrough. Another wicket followed when Jadeja trapped Sabbir Rahman in front of stumps on 16. But just as when it seemed like the game has tilted in India’s favour, the visitors came up with a partnership, which added to the frustration of the Indian players on the field as the duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan lasted safely till stumps.
Mehedi seemed to be an impressive force as the Man of the Tournament of the U-19 World Cup 2016, who had a highest score of 10 in a Test before this innings, finally showed why he is called an all-rounder as he stood at the crease and scored an unbeaten 51. The partnership of 87 runs between the two ensured Bangladesh did not crumble in the race of India’s mountainous total.
At stumps, Bangladesh were 322/6, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan batting on 81 and 51 respectively.
The next challenge for Bangladesh would be to avoid the follow-on and get close to India’s score, which will somehow revive their hopes of salvaging a draw.
