India vs England 2016/17: 5 Takeaways From ODI Series 2

  1. Death bowling needs to improve:

In all the three games, India’s death bowling remained miserable as the hosts conceded runs at least above 9.5 per over in every game during the last 10 overs. This has been a constant headache for the Men in Blue since the 2015 World Cup, as ace pacer Mohammad Shami is yet to make a comeback. But Jasprit Bumrah, touted as India’s man to the death overs woes, was extremely wayward as he struggled to get his lines right throughout the series. The fact that the England batsmen were quite destructive though can offer some space for Bumrah and the rest of the death bowling.

But with the pitches in England generally turning into flat tracks, the Indian pacers will have to get their death bowling right. Bumrah in particular will be the side’s go to man in these situations and if Shami makes it to the squad, he’ll surely offer a big solution. More than the yorkers, the Indian pacers need to work on variations such as the slower one’s and wide yorkers.
